Louis Applebaum
Lou Applebaum was one of Canada’s pre-eminent classical composers of the last half century. He was the original Music Director of the Stratford Festival, for whom he wrote scores for plays for almost every season since it was founded in 1953.

In addition to being a major composer, Lou was an important arts administrator/policy maker. He was Executive Director of the Ontario Arts Council in the 1970s, and was co-chair of the federal Applebaum-Hebert Commission in the early 1980s – a commission which helped set Canada’s cultural policy since that time.
