Trio
Solisti
Maria Bachmann, violin - Alexis Pia Gerlach, cello - Jon Klibbonoff,
piano
Described by the Washington Post as "
a force of nature",
Trio Solisti brings together three of the most sought after artists
of their generation, violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach,
and pianist Jon Klibonoff, to create performances that have thrilled
audiences.
Trio Solisti has rapidly ascended to prominence since its formation
in New York City in 2000 on the strength of a unique blend of technical
mastery, innovative programming, an embrace of 20th and 21st century
repertoire, and a notably exuberant brand of music-making. The group's
first recording, Tempest
Fantasy, is devoted to the music of American composer Paul Moravec.
Violinist Maria Bachmann said "We had such a wonderful success with our first CD, which is unusual for a recording of new music. We wanted to follow it with something from the standard repertoire, and we chose the Brahms trios, which present both a thrilling technical challenge and an enormous emotional component - we love them." The New York Times described a recent performance of Brahms' Trio No.3 in C minor by Trio Solisti "...a compelling performance ...consistently brilliant".
While Trio Solisti performs all the standard works for piano trio,
the group also branches out not only in
the direction of new music by such composers as Mr.Moravec, Paul Schoenfield,
John Anthony Lennon,
John Musto and Scott Johnson, but also by making arrangements of existing
repertoire. The
arrangements, made by Maria Bachmann and Jon Klibonoff, allow the group
to include such works as
Gershwin songs, the Falla Suite Populaire Espagnole, Milhaud's Saudades
do Brazil, Brahms' Hungarian
Dances, and czardas by Hubay and Monti in their concert programs, which
are often conceived
thematically.
Among the highlights of the Trio's 2005-06 season are performances
at Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts, San Francisco's Music at
The Kohl Mansion, and California's prestigious Ventura Festival. As
individuals the members of Trio Solisti have performed in most major
U.S. venues and in over twenty countries throughout the world. As a
group the Trio's 2004-05 season included performances at the Kennedy
Center, on Lincoln Center's Great Performers series, at New York's legendary
Town Hall, and at the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona, Italy. Trio Solisti
is presented in concert series at New York's Morgan Library, the St.
Louis Museum of Art, and at Adelphi University, where they are the trio
in residence. The founding ensemble of the Telluride MusicFest, Trio
Solisti has also performed at Seattle's Meany Hall, La Jolla's Revelle
series, Troy Chromatic concerts, the Milwaukee Symphony's Pabst series,
and at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as presented by the American
Academy in Rome.
